Canada Will Form National Club For Future World Hockey.
The Montreal Gazette. 19 марта 1963 года.
Edmonton. - CP. - Canada will need a national club to get anywhere in the world hockey championships, Art Potter of Edmonton, president of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association, said last night.
Potter, who had arrived home a few minutes earlier after a flight from Stockholm, said Trail Smoke Eaters “gave it all they had” in the world championships but they “just didn’t have it”. Canada finished fourth.
Canada will have a national team starting with the Olympics next year, Potter said, and Canadian teams for all international tournaments after that should be chosen on a national basis.
“The day of sending a straight club team for the world championship is gone,” Potter said. “European hockey has advanced greatly. Outs has stood still”.
“There was very little to choose between the four top team in the tournament. Injuries didn’t do us any good”.
“We’re have to concentrate on skating. Trail just wasn’t up to it. They gave it all they had”/
“Seth Marting did a tremendous job. He was chosen the all-star goalie of the tournament. But the team in front of him was not what they should have been”.
“The other teams just skated and checked, and never gave us a chance to get it”.
“We have to do some thinking on some kind of a national club.”
The Smoke Eaters didn’t play in the league this year. They had a seven-game Canadian tour, in which they lost six, and then played a few European exhibition games before the championship.
“Something has to be done to stimulate more national hockey pride in Canada.” said Potter.
