Eighteenyearold Sergei Gomoliako, a 224pound forward, tried to leave the department store with a pair of gloves he had not purchased, Lt. Pat Donahue said. He was released to the custody of his coach after police questioned him. No charges were filed.

Gomoliako was visiting the store with several teammates from the Soviet national junior hockey team, which is in Anchorage for the World Junior Hockey Championship. The security guard stopped the youths as they left the store, Donahue said.

Gomoliako offered to pay for the gloves but he didn't admit shoplifting them, Donahue said.
